If you have been bursting to try a new medium and a one-day art workshop is not long enough to explore it, talk to me! I love to know what gets people’s creativity flowing and if there are enough people wanting to do something similar then I’ll willingly create a new course. Equally, if there is a subject you would like to master that is not currently covered in the One-Day Workshop titles, please tell me about it!

Short Art Courses

These six-week art courses are designed to take you step-by-step through a subject allowing you to progress at your own pace. Each week I teach the group techniques, tips and tricks before spending time with each person, helping you improve and enjoy your own creativity.

I like to encourage everyone to find their own signature style so you feel inspired and confident to try out different techniques and find the ones that work for you.

Cost £144.00 for six weeks of 3-hours

Includes illustrated handouts, unlimited teas, coffees, biscuits and sometimes home-made cake!

Getting Your Brain to Draw Like an Artist

FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS AND FRUSTRATED ARTISTS EVERYWHERE!

Has it been years since you’ve attempted to draw
anything but want to see if you can? Perhaps you
have quietly picked up a sketchbook only to be
frustrated and discouraged with the results!
Designed for the willing but terrified: if you want
to draw but think you can’t, this course can teach
you clever techniques that help you to draw what
you see, not what you think you see. The classes
cover line and tone, perspective, good composition,
measuring by sight, drawing from a photograph,
still life, figure drawing and colour theory.

This six-week course starts with exploding the myth that people are the most complicated to draw. We will initially focus on drawing techniques, the dimensions of the human head and how to place the features. After creating detailed tonal drawings we will sketch out and begin to paint a tonal under-painting onto canvas. From there you will be shown how to build up subtle coloured paint layers to create realistic skin and hair tones and tips on how to go about painting realistic teeth and eyes. This course expands on the day workshops and has a lot more time built in to explore personal styles and usage of paint.

We will experiment with different techniques to gradually build up skill levels, discovering the qualities and limitations of each medium. Short exercises will build up to painting larger more complex pieces.

Perspective, Scale and Dynamic Composition

THIS COURSE LOOKS AT HOW TO CREATE PLEASING PICTURES BY LEARNING RULES FOLLOWED BY THE MASTERS.

It includes some technical drawing, sketching and painting. By the end of the course you will have lots more tricks up your sleeve to create the perfect picture!

KATE’S ARTY AFTERNOON ART CLINIC!

Want to wind down for the weekend? Having trouble with a painting and need a second opinion? Come along on alternate Friday afternoons to draw and paint with other art enthusiasts, seek advice on your work or just come for the cake! £20 on the door, 2.00-5.00pm.
