Introduction to Pastels

If you would like to be introduced to the different types of oil, soft and pencil pastels and the techniques and supports best suited for each, then this is the course for you! For beginners starting out, to artists already confident in other mediums, this is a chance to draw with colour. COST: £270 for a 6-week course of 3-hourly sessions in Storrington.

Mastering Pastels (intermediate)

This course is designed for those who are confident with pastels or have completed the introductory course and wish to enhance their skill levels. Discover new ways of improving your personal style of painting with more advanced techniques and use of a live model for one session.
COST: £320 for 6 classes of 3 hours (includes fee for model).

Learn to Paint with Acrylics

Everything you need to know to get you started with this fabulously versatile medium which spans both oil and watercolours. Suitable for beginners and more experienced painters with demonstrations and one-to-one guidance. 
COST: £270 for a 6-week course of 3-hourly sessions in Storrington. Also available as a weekend course for £210.

Introduction to Oils

This course is a great introduction to the merits of painting with traditional oils versus fast-drying alkyd oil paints. It covers the materials, skills and techniques needed to get the most from this wonderfully lustrous traditional medium.
COST: £270 for a 6-week course of 3-hourly sessions in Storrington. Also available as a weekend course for £210.

Watercolour Techniques

If you have already dabbled with watercolours or have learned the basics techniques with other paints and want to work with a more challenging medium then this is the course for you. We will try out lots of different techniques to help you find the style that works best for your way of painting. Pen & Ink with Watercolour is another course available, as well as the Botanical Watercolour Course. Suitable for intermediate painters.
COST: £305 for 6 classes of 3 hours at Storrington Village Hall.

Watercolour with Pen & Ink

This course is a fun mixture of drawing and painting with watercolour. Suitable for all abilities although a basic understanding of drawing and using watercolour paints is advantageous for those who wish to give this course a go.
COST: £305 for 6 classes of 3 hourly sessions, includes refreshments.

Comprehensive Portrait Course

This 8-week course teaches you step-by-step the skills needed for drawing and painting a portrait from start to finish. Suitable for complete novices and artists who love to paint people, by the end of the course you will have completed at least one portrait from a photo of your choice using acrylics or oils.
COST: £375 for 8 classes of 3 hours includes a clothed model one week.

Improving Portraiture Skills

Fancy another challenge? This course has even more tips and tricks on producing a convincing portrait, drawing from techniques used by famous portrait artists of the past, as well as the inspiration to develop your own unique personal style. Choose any mediums to work in.
COST: £320 for 6 classes of 3 hours, includes fee for model and refreshments.

Fur & Feathers - Animal Drawing Course

This six-week course will enable you to accurately draw then recreate the textures of fur and feathers. Using drawing-based materials such as pencils, pens, charcoal, coloured pencils and soft pastels we will look at how different mediums can work to create styles suitable for character and movement. Suitable for artists who already have a good level of drawing skills and are familiar working with pastels and other drawing mediums.
COST: £305 for 6 classes of 3 hours.

Dynamic Pet Painting Course

This drawing and painting course teaches you how to source photos, create sketches and transfer an image of an animal onto a canvas. During the remainder of the six weeks we will build the portraits either in acrylic or oil paints to create depth and character. Suitable for artists who already have a good level of drawing skills and are familiar working with acrylic paints or oils or have already been on a painting course.
COST: £305 for 6 classes of 3 hours.

Draw Quicker & Paint Looser

Two short courses: Draw Quicker and Paint Looser are designed for those wanting to try out some fast-paced techniques on how to get the most out of sketching quickly in a sketchbook using pens, pencils, ink, chalk & charcoal, or painting freely with watercolour, acrylic or oil paints. Suitable for absolute beginners and established artists, these courses all about play and trying lots of different techniques.
COST: £166 for each course.

Artynoon Drop-in Classes

Pop in and paint, or draw, or craft... Bring something you are currently working on, get some advice if you need it, paint with other like-minded artists or just come for the homemade goodies! Suitable for all abilities working in all mediums and all are welcome.
COST: £30 includes advice if you want it, camaraderie and cake.

Workshops, Art Group Demos & Art Day Challenges

One-off Workshops may look at a single technique, medium or subject, like how to tackle pen & wash, life drawing or cutting mounts to frame your own pictures. Summer Art Challenges aim to take advantage of any warm, sunny, days and are held at the Weald & Downland Museum and other open-air venues in Sussex. Kate also teaches and gives talks to local art groups and societies.

Forest Bathing & Art Event dates are booked for 2026. Weekend Courses, Landscape Painting Days and a Sound Bath Event are also being considered for 2026. Click the titles or contact Kate for more info or to make a request.

Weekend Courses

The ‘Essential’ Drawing & Painting Weekends explored various mediums for those who cannot make weekdays. These small groups are tailored to the individuals who book on for the whole weekend or individual days and will be repeated on demand in 2026.
COST: £210 for each full weekend with handouts or £85 per Sunday session, includes refreshments but not lunches or art materials. Please see individual corresponding course pages above for an overview of the course content and list of materials to bring.

Summer Art School

Try your hand at a number of different mediums in this 6-week taster course. Suitable for beginners wanting to learn new techniques and also established artists wanting to play/explore/learn while the sun shines, indoors or outside!
COST: £295 for 6 classes of 3 hours or £51 per session plus any additional material costs.

One-to-One Tuition

Learn to draw or paint in the comfort of Kate's fully-equipped garden studio with woodland views. One-to-one tuition is tailored exactly to what you would like to learn or gather a few friends for a few hours of creative fun! 
VENUE & TIME: At Kate's studio or via Zoom at a time to suit you.
COST: £68 per person per hour or £50 per person for two-to-one per hour, plus any materials. Charges are higher if not at Kate’s studio to take into consideration travel costs and prep time.

Pitch Up & Paint on Zoom

Anything goes at these online sessions designed to keep all you arty folk inspired, connected and enthused in your creativity if you can’t meet up face-to-face. It ran a bit like a taster course during lockdown and in 2022 we looked at a different famous artists each month… You can request a medium, a style and a subject you would like to try your hand at and we’ll learn from the ‘Masters’!
COST: £68 per session on Zoom.

Masterclasses

Learn a bit more about art history and techniques used by 'The Old Masters', watch art demos and pick up tips on how to improve your personal style. In this course we look at famous artists - historical and contemporary - and what they can teach us through their style, medium or methods used.

I have asked them to put together a basic set of brushes for those just starting out (see above). Please ask to see the catalogue and the brushes I use as they are all great quality at reasonable prices and they last!
